The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of the Municipality of Cateel successfully conducted a three-day Basic Incident Command System Training for School Heads, Administrative Officers, and Administrative Assistants, of the Department of Education Cateel 1 District on August 11–13, 2026, at the Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City.

The training aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, coordination, and preparedness of school personnel in managing emergencies and disasters through the Incident Command System, a standardized approach to organizing and coordinating disaster response operations.

The activity was conducted through the support and guidance of Mayor Emilou C. Nuñez, whose commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience continues to support the municipality’s disaster risk reduction and management initiatives.

Serving as resource speakers and cadres were Francis Jason Bendulo, Provincial Government Assistant Department Head; MC Adrian Nove Cobero, PDO III of DepEd Davao Oriental; Redentor Cardinal, Supervising Administrative Officer of the Tagum Health Office; and Eileen Joy Manatad, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer II of the Municipality of Compostela, Davao de Oro

The training was facilitated by the MDRRMO-Cateel team led by Roy S. Mondares, MDRRMO Head, together with Rizza May C. Sobrecarey, LDRRMO II and Training and Administrative Section Chief, and Cherie C. Taplac, LDRRM Assistant.

The activity was also made possible through the support and approval of the Office of Civil Defense XI, headed by Regional Director Ednar G. Dayanghirang, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Davao Oriental, headed by Engr. Jesusa C. Timbang.

The Basic ICS Training underscores the importance of equipping school personnel with the appropriate systems and competencies to effectively respond to emergencies and disasters. By strengthening coordination and preparedness at the school level, the training contributes to the municipality’s continuing efforts to build safer, more prepared, and disaster resilient communities.
